Father Yves Moal's social welfare service model in Hualien often makes us wonder if we can replicate it in other cities in Taiwan.
'ALTRUISTIC+ Social Enterprise' in Taiwan has been addressing schizophrenia and supporting disadvantaged groups. We initially focused on serving the disabled, integrating social resources for their future careers. Later, we expanded our efforts to include mental health care, studying service models at mental health institutions and hospitals. We realized the importance of intervening at the source of social problems, like long-term care, without relying on fancy KPIs. We combine donation budgets to aid disadvantaged populations, particularly in Hualien County. Father Yves Moal and his team at the Yuli Catholic Church are our inspiration, providing care to people with mental disabilities, homeless individuals, and vulnerable groups for over a century. Father Yves Moal emphasized the need for basic "food and shelter" and "supportive community systems" for marginalized groups.
Father Yves Moal's social welfare service model in Hualien often makes us wonder if we can replicate it in other cities in Taiwan, so that individuals with mental disabilities and their families have better chances of finding a place to live and thrive. Social service for us is often vague, but persistence pays off, and after a few years, we see things more clearly.
During the process of assessing resources across the province, we discovered that "transportation" plays a significant and indispensable role in long-term care and social welfare. Solitary and frail elderly people often cannot go out because of physical deterioration and lack of transportation; individuals with mental disabilities who need care and visits often miss the opportunity for intervention due to a lack of transportation. This time, we integrated corporate resources and planned a project to donate cars to the resource-deprived areas of Taiwan, allowing us to find local groups with the capacity and belief but who are gradually being marginalized, and provide them with care and assistance. We thank the entrepreneurs who are willing to leave something for those in need while achieving success, and hope that more entrepreneurs will join us in bringing our resources to the community.
